Delta Airlines – Not your average airline

without comments

Of all the airlines in the world, there are few that have such a rich history and extensive coverage as Delta Airlines. The company is based in the United States, and operates over a widespread international and domestic network. Along with its subsidiary companies, Delta operates over 4,000 flights per day, and provides passengers with travel to every continent on Earth excluding Antarctica!

The airline’s hub is in Atlanta at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This airport is officially the largest in the world and has been ranked as the busiest (in regards to the amount of passengers passing through) for over thirteen years as of 2012. As well as this prestigious headquarters, Delta enjoys its status as the largest airline (in regards to the amount of aircraft that are operated by the company) in the world since its acquisition of Northwest Airlines in October of 2008.

Furthermore, whilst Delta is ranked as one of the biggest airlines in the world, it is also the airline that has been operating for the longest amount of time in the United States. The company was formed in 1924 as part of a crop fertilising operation carried out from various aircraft. After this successful venture, the company moved to Louisiana and began transporting passengers in 1929 after the re-branding in 1928 which gave the company the name Delta Air Service.

The airline has always stayed ahead of its competitors by keeping up with the times. For example, Delta replaced its use of propeller planes with the far more efficient and advanced form of jet engine powered planes in the 1960s, allowing the company to offer flights to mainland Europe and across the Pacific Ocean.

As well as being one of the most prolific travel companies to date, Delta Airlines has always had a strong commitment to its customers, ensuring that travel is both comfortable and affordable. As of 2008, Delta again made efforts to keep up with technological advances by installing Aircell broadband capacities in many of its aircraft. This allows passengers to access the internet with Wi-Fi capable devices like modern smartphones, tablet computers, and conventional laptops. This not only allows holiday makers to enjoy their own choice of on-flight entertainment, but also helps businessmen using the airline to stay in touch with their peers on the ground whilst travelling to business meetings around the world.
