Big changes for Malaysia Airlines

without comments

Big things are set to happen early this year in Malaysia, as the country’s main airline is planning the relocation of its headquarters to Kuala Lumpur International Airport from its original location in Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in some time during February 2012. Malaysia Airlines currently operates mostly from its base at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Kota Kinabalu, but the decision has been made to make the location the headquarters for both business and flight administration, moving the work away from its former headquarters in Subang, Selangor.

Since the airline is Malaysia’s flag carrier company, the airline enjoys preferential treatment and extra privileges granted by the country’s government. This is due mostly to the fact that the airline is actually owned exclusively by the Malaysian government.

Malaysia Airlines is often abbreviated to MAS for international and domestic flights; of which the company provides many. The airline operates flights throughout the Southeast Asia as well as South Asia, East Asia and the Middle East. There are also frequent flights between Australasia and Europe that are operated by the company, generating a lot of revenue through the sales of tickets for passengers travelling across popular backpacking routes. The airline also provides a transatlantic service to Buenos Aires to Kuala Lumpur via the South African city of Cape Town. Furthermore, the company also offers a transpacific service to Los Angeles, again flying out from Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia Airlines experienced financial losses during the Asian Economical Crisis, but is steadily recovering from these losses. This has been achieved by the company’s enthusiasm for business acquisition and merger activities, specifically targeting airlines in the region of the Asian Pacific.

According to the list of Aviation Week’s Top Performing Companies, the company was rated as the second highest with a score of 88. The score is based on the financial status of the airline and its viability for future business endeavours. The company has also enjoyed additional accolades from the internationally recognised aeronautics industry authority: Skytrax. Skytrax has awarded the airline with various different awards over the past few decades, including an award for services and safety.
The airline is also proud to be one of only seven airlines worldwide that has been awarded a five star rating from Skytrax, establishing the airline as a company of prestige and quality. The star rating is based on independent research conducted by Skytrax itself.
